Thank you for answering. My pdoc does not mix meds..she does not like combining antidepressants. She does not like high doseages either.
She is unaccsessible by phone. Once a month for 15-20 minutes, for a drug check.
My family doc gave me a 2 week supply of serax last night, to get me through withdrawal from effexor.
I shudder to think that I have to wait 2 more weeks and then start wellbutrin on a dose of 150mg/day and not see anyone again till sometime in Jan.
So I may not be feeling any better till some time next year, or longer waiting for it to work. I can't wait.
I worry how my children(4) and my husband are going to survive. This disease is destroying our family.
Thanks again for being here.

Anna, sounds to me like you need a new psychiatrist! I have been on various antidepressants for over 10 years, many different kinds and combinations. You should not have to go through the torment you describe. I would get a new dr. in a heartbeat!!

I agree, being unavailable between visits is not acceptable practice, unless your
doctor works for a public clinic or something. There are reports that an antihistamine like Benadryl (available
over the counter, and safe except for possible sedative effect)
may counteract Effexor withdrawal.

Oh, Anna: I agree, you need a new Psychiatrist! Over the years I've been through (let me see now...) six different therapists & doctors, and only about a year and a half ago did I find a doctor that I really "click" with. (I gave up on my damn HMO and just picked her out of the phonebook, too ... I got lucky.) Having a good psychiatrist is like having a really good friend ... a friend that you PAY, but a friend nonetheless. If you decide to shop around, good luck!
