Hi everyone,
I have an issue where all the add-ons my pdoc is trying, such as cytomel, Deplin, Strattera make me tired rather than more alert. I'm having zero luck as my pdoc tries to augment my current meds with what ever he can think of.
Why would the "augmenting" drugs make me tired, spaced out, reflexes slower, nauseous, dizzy, etc.?
Here is my med combo in case anyone is interested:
Anafranil 50mg
lithium 600mg
ativan prn
seroquel 100mg
Deplin 15mg (day 11 of trial)Thank you for any thoughts on this!

Well, I have looked at what you are taking and assume that those drugs have been prescribed to you to all be taken together.
Being that the case, I see the great potential of the combination of the drugs leading to a life-ruining condiition or death. This makes me wonder why a prescriber, if a psychiatrist/doctor, would tell you to take such. You see, the combination potentiates the risk of neurotoxcicity and psychotic symptoms. Also a condition called {serotonin syndrome} could result that could kill you.
The combination of the drugs could supress the CNS including breathing. There is also the possibility of having a heart atck that could kill you.
Now there is also the possibility that the drugs could cause you to go into a mind-altered sate to want to kill yourself and/or others.
Now those are my thoghts when I see what you listed here that you are taking.
Here is a link to a post here that has a link to a site listing those hat killed themselve and/or others and other crimes while on psychotropic drugs. You could click on top when the site comes up on the red {drugs}. Then the drugs will be in order and you can look at the drug that is prescribed to you and see what happened while those people were taking that drug.

Rosslyn don't know but Deplin which I've taken is basically a vitamin as you know so no to that one. Ativan prn do you take it frequently? Seroquel could that be it? As sounds like lowish doses of both lithium and anafranil? Phillipa

Have you tried an amphetamine augment? I believe that is in the starD chart somewhere. Strattera doesn't work for a large percentage. Well, it did not for me. Had the opposite effect :(

This is the rudest, most uncivil post I have seen recently. I wish you would leave babble. I am sick of you. You ruin the board.

Last year about 42,000 died from psychiatric drugs. These numbers come from gov stats and the CDC. You can call the FDA and get the information. I have had them send me microfilm of the stats.
Now this is around 3500 people killed each momth. Imagine that a middle school of around 700 students. Now imagine 5 of those schools, EACH MONTH, having all of those students killed, every month, every month. Would you want to do something about that if that happened?
Now youmight say that the 3500 people killed by the drugs each month were not all middle school students. But, my friends, some of the students start their taking of mind-altering drugs in middle school, like Ritalin and Zoloft and such. Some kill themselves in that age. Then they become older and some die later.
The Columbine murders were domne by teenagers on antidepressants as they are called, or other names for mind-altering drugs.
Here is a video that I would like for those interested in this discussion to view.

>Last year about 42,000 died from psychiatric drugs.
The number of people who have died due to psych drugs is not established. We are all aware that there are risks, but most people here are ill and in need of treatment. There are risks with most drugs and other medical treatments. This is by no means specific to psychiatry.
At the moment, you are hijacking a large number of threads with your own agenda. You do not provide support or answer poster's questions.

But this is not a discussion. You have not responded to the poster's question. As always, you just post your own agenda.

>Why would the "augmenting" drugs make me tired, spaced out, reflexes slower, nauseous, dizzy, etc.?
It really depends on which drug you use to augment. In terms of your regular medication, Seroquel, lithium and Anafranil can all cause some sedation. Lithium and Anafranil can cause nausea. In terms of the augmenting drugs, Strattera has also been reported to cause tiredness and nausea at times.
50mg of Anafranil is quite a low dose, but Anafranil is potent. Have you tried a range of doses for your depression?
What benefit do you think you get from Anafranil versus Seroquel versus lithium? Perhaps your combination has because a little over-complex, increasing the risk of adverse effects.
Take care.

Hey again. Ed has a good point--work with what you have instead of adding more. Could you drop the seroquel and up the ativan?

Anafranil and Lithium is a combo that could be making you tired. Seroquel is also very sedating. I would try a different antipsychotic, like Latuda or Abilify.

Lou thanks as I'm somewhat sure you know I take luvox the medication in question in the Columbine murders. Does this help me accept that I take this med or further scare me into wanting to cold turkey stop taking it and perhaps have a horrible reaction? Phillipa

I, for one, find that Lou's changing the subject line each time to include his own name to be very inconsiderate, counterproductive, and contrary to the function of a forum comprised of more than one person.
Lou, I wish you would stop doing that.

Hi CE,
I am afraid to drop the seroquel...maybe I will do the lithium first.
Did you mean increase the anafranil?
Thanks,
Roslynn

Do you find Seroquel beneficial? It can be sedating, do you find this to be a problem?
Take care.

Does 100 mg of Seroquel help you sleep more than 50 mg does?

Hi Scott,
What happened was, one night at bedtime I had a weird episode of derealization that scared me so much, I called my previous pdoc the next morning. I was taking 75mg Seroquel at the time and he upped it to 100mg. Since then, there has not been a recurrence of that episode, but I usually sleep 1-2 hours in the afternoon each day which I was not doing before the 100mg.
Sorry for the long-winded answer!
