I think I'm officially nuts seriously. I've cut down on benzos as so tired almost fall asleep after couple hours up. Down to 10mg valium and .25 xanax bedtime. Then wake in four hours 2.5 valium . Used to be 20mg valium bed and .5 xanax and the when woke 5mg valium. So shouldn't I be more awake? Only take 50mg of luvox at bedtime. Thyroid was changed again today from 50mcg twice a week and 100mcg 5 days a week to 50mcg six days a week and 100 one day a week. Can't remember a thing. I want in my mind to do so many things. And then can't. My bike rides I can hardly make anymore. I've seen the internist all blood work okay. Don't know the endos thyroid numbers but internists were TSH .655 Free T41.70 which top of normal. Now new endo ones don't have numbers but he made the change. I have to do things. My husband thinks I'm a fake and making up excuses. But somethings wrong I'm not depressed as so much I want to do. Any thoughts as seriously I know my body. What was intense anxiety is now tiredness and pushing myself to do the necessities of life which believe me isn't much. Thanks Phillipa sorry to complain yet again

You've already made up your mind that all your problems are thyroid related. So if that's correct than adjusting your thyroid should solve all your problems.
Sometimes one has to think outside the box and admidt to other possibilities. You know you could be a woman who has thyroid problems and is also depressed. We all want to do a lot of things but the mind is not willing. Seems like depression to me.
Has your bloodwork shown any abnormalities outside of thyroid?
Also the fact that all your problems seems to have started when your thyroid problems started doesn't mean that after all these years there aren't other issues.
Also you yourself posted an article how some people who had your type of thyroid disease often still needed ad's for a complete recovery.
You have tinkered with just about every dosage of thyroid for years without a remission.
Perhaps it's time for you to think outside of the box. The fact that your neighbor and other people have done better without ads just might not be relevant to your case.
You yourself have admidted that years ago you had a robust response to high dose luvox. mmm maybe that could happen again?

Hi Phillipa,
Are u a hypothyroid too?? Your case seems pretty similar to mine.
What really helped me get along was 50-100 mgs of DHEA. I have taken this with no adverse effects for 5 years now. No hairy chin or arms whatsoever. Great for energy.Maybe this is your missing link?
Love,

From what you describe, it sounds like you're experiencing atypical depression. This can be caused by hypothyroidism, but your labs show you're NOT hypothyroid, so that's not the cause. What medication regimen were you on when you felt the best?

Only a low dose of a benzo for many many years. It was when thyroid started that I was put on a low dose of an ad from then it's been all downhill. BTW thanks for answering. Think the benzos should up again? Or what? Ad's were a bandaid during menopause. Phillipa

Maria don't know much about DHEA actually nothing. Did you ever have such low numbers? And it helped? I've lost tons of weight lately think that has stabalized. What's your med regime? Phillipa

Phillipa when was the last time you went on holiday? Perhaps a holiday now, or a short break, if possible, would blow some of the cobwebs out of your mind. You sound tired and in need of refreshment. Keep up with the bike ride. Perhaps changing your route, going somewhere different, might wake you up a bit?

Hi Phillipa,
I'm on 12.5 mcg of T4 & 180 mgs of biological thyreoïdum (containing both T4 & T3 made from pigs thyroids -gross, yes!). I don't know about the blood work as the Dr. just reads the form and says everything is okay.
All I know is DHEA can give a boost to the immune system. It has helped me a lot.
Unfortunately I have to pay 4 it myself, as it is not recognised as a useful treatment 4 hypothyroidism, eventhough I don't want to go without for 1 day!I'm also on 450 mgs of Seroquel, 50 mgs of Trazodone and 3 mgs of Ativan (besides a whole load of vits & supplements!!).
Take care,
MariaBy the way, are you in the UK?

Phillipa, did you start feeling nuts when you changed meds? First, when I tried thyroid med cause mine was bottom of normal it made me too hyper. Dropped it. But you responded, and if you suddenly dropped it, I would think that would cause a lot of fatigue by itself.
If your adjusting benzos, jeez, you know how hard withdrawal from those are! No wonder you feel crazy! Btw-even if your thyroid #s are good, I would think a drop in med WOULD make you tired for a while. Tell your husband you want off the meds and to cut you some slack! (except in the tactful way that Phillipa is so good at!) Maybe a spread sheet of med changes and when you started feeling "officially nuts" would help shed some light? Hope you are feeling better.
Let us know how you make out!

Jade which med are you talking about dropping? You have me confused if it was the luvox that was years ago. The benzos last few months have been trying to lower as it seems they now make me tired. Synthroid has been steadily being cut by the endo for over a year. Today was a half of a pill day usually feel better on those days. But the fatigue has been getting worse steadily. Now I don't get more than 7 hours at best sleep but stay in bed. Late to bed also. Love Phillipa

Unless you're experiencing a lot of anxiety, I don't see much reason to up the benzos. Have you tried an MAOI before?

Hi Phillipa,
Maybe I misunderstood, I thought you were saying you recently dropped dose on Thyroid med and benzos. (Don't know about Luvox?) I was just saying that maybe the drop in meds is causing some side effects, or maybe you need the thyroid med and thats why you are tired. But...you just said you feel better when you drop dose so scratch that!!! Go with your gut here Phillipa, I'm just throwin out possibilities.
Btw-when do see endo again? Is there a specialist you could see for thyroid?
Feel better, you'll figure it out. Don't give up on it if you KNOW somethings not right. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.
Keep me posted!

Jade no you right about both but explaination needed as have dropped down on benzos and today the endo said to drop way down on synthroid as too much synthroid keeps lowing your thyroid and my numbers are getting to low. Opposite of what you'd thing the lower the dose of thyroid the highter the thyroid gets. So the expert is the endo and internist sees the results also he checked got the ones before todays results back and was at the highest end of free t4 internists. Don't have the endos numbers voice message said to drop down in doseage. Luvox the same. So confusing I know. Love Phillipa and you need to sleep too.

Bulldog I'm not tinkering around with thryroid doses they are prescribed by my endo who changed it again today. I take offense that I'm self prescribing as I dont and wont do that the thyroid is responsible for almost all organs of the body including bones. When it is stabalized if ever then other changes. But one change at a time or you don't know what's doing what. Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
Mine could very well be AI related. The same time Sjogren's syndrome started to play up, the same year I got hypothyroid. The blood work doesn't show antibodies however...Take care,

Sorry Phillipa, I dont know what the numbers mean, but how do you get them where they should be if Synthroid isn't working?
My thyroid is very low end normal (my temp is always 97 also) Doc gave me Cytomel, I didn't take it as it made hyper. So makes sense to me that if you are used to taking replacement, then stop, couldn't that make you tired and anxious?
Is Cytomel somthing you could take, or are they all the same? Let me know?
