Klonopin vs Vallium?

Posted by christinav on March 12, 2006, at 17:49:00

I am on klonopin now and it has helped with my panic attacks. I still have anxiety attacks but not as severe. The thing i hate the most is i am always tired, irritable, a little depressed and the worse thing is i am very weak feeling. I am on .5 mg three times a day. I was wondering if vallium has the same effect?

Thank you
christina

We're all different. My preference is for valium. Fondly, Phillipa

Valium and klonopin are closely related. Valium breaks down into klonopin. It has a very long half life. I would ask your doctor or a pharmacist.

I prefer Valium to klonopin, I found klonopin a little to strong for me. Valium lasts longer and doesn't seem to make me appear drunk, quite a few co-worker told me I was slurring my words on klonopin and thought I was drinking at work so I switch back to Valium. One of klonopin's known side effects is depression. I'm pretty sure this isn't the case with Valium. Paul

Valium breaks down into desmethyldiazepam [nordiazepam] (Tranxene), oxazepam (Serax), and temazepam (Restoril).

I switched a rather substantial dose of Klonopin over to a rather substantial dose of Valium. I believe the Valium has a slightly greater effect on anxiety and its effect is more immediately seen than the subtleness of Klonopin.

However, as they say, your miles may vary.

If you do decide this sort of taper with your doctors blessing, add the Valium before removing the Klonopin. Its easier on the system.

That's not what my doctor said ... but then again I don't trust everything he says. :-)

Klonopin is a nitro benzodiazepine and is distantly related to Rohypnol; Valium is a keto benzodiazepine

The EDs in this chart are a little off from others, but there are different treatises...

Clonazepam made me depressed. Diazepam (Valium) does not. I am very happy with Diazepam - one of my all-time favorite drugs, and I've been on a few.

I assume the question is about Valium [diazepam]? Yes, absolutely. I take a relatively low dose, 5-15 mg, as-needed. Many people take it daily as well, with great success.

Hope that helps.

I had exactly the same thing happen (I have panic disorder). At 1 mg Klonopin, maybe depression, but at 1.5 mg/day, definite depression. BTW, I didn't find tapering Klonopin down difficult or uncomfortable at all-maybe go down to 1 mg Klonopin? My experience with valium and panic is that it is useless. Xanax is the best for me, far and away, but everyone seems afraid of its "addictive" properties, which are over-rated in my experience.

Good luck with the seroquel, it does help some people but it just made me a total zombie, anti psychotics are very powerful drugs

> 25mg

I was given 200mg of seroquel and almost slept for 2 days, so I dropped back to 100mg then 50mg then 25mg and still slept for almost 2 days, it's just way too strong for me, it took my anxiety away but did nothing for depression at all and made me really apathetic, I became a walking zombie and didn't give a flying sh*t about anything. I didn't mention this earlier because you seemed to have made up your mind and I didn't want to put you off something you had not tried. Anti psychotic's don't work for depression in most people I have spoken to. If you haven't tried Valium I suggest you give it a try. I have been in a similar situation and after 3 days of Valium I have never looked back, it might take a few days to figure out your does but stick with it and see how you go, I wish you a speedy recovery, all the best, Paul

I went back on the klonopin because i dont know what else to do. The klonopin doesnt take the anxiety away though. If the klonopin doesnt work i dont think the vallium will be any different.

To me, nothing is in a league with Xanax for getting rid of anxiety...it is really worth a try, IMO. You might even find that 0.25-0.5 mg with your Klonopin works wonders; it does for me I hope this hasn't been mentioned before in the posts. I take Klonopin, but Xanax is THE drug for anxiety and panic, in my book.
