The first anxiety med I was on was Effexor, and I didn't think it helped me much. I had "floating" dizziness feelings every day that lasted all day long, and my neurologist thought my serotonin might be off, but after 2 months on Effexor, I was still dizzy. When I went off Effexor, I, too, had the strange shock sensations in my head. Lasted about a week.
Now that I'm on Lexapro, I haven't been dizzy since the 10th day of being on the meds. I think that is a major breakthru for me because the dizziness was starting to become a part of my every day life and I didn't like it one bit!

My first week of taking lexapro is a hard one. I have the headaches, jaw problems, throat closing, hands shaking, and I feel just plan weird. I am also sleeping an awful lot, I go to bed early and still wake up feeling like I've never slept before. I'm a full time student and I work full time, and this med. is really messing with my everyday life. Will this always be like this?

No, the side effects will go away. It was well worth the wait for me, but I didn't experience all that some people do.

I'm on my second day of Lexapro and Klonopin for depression, severe GAD and panic disorder. I'd been self-medicating with Xanax and wine for the last couple weeks until my health plan could get me in to see a dr. I'm also out on disability right now and sending my 2 year old daughter to daycare full time because I'm afraid to be home alone with her. Not afraid that I'll hurt her in any way, but that I either won't be able to protect her or will have a panic attack and pass out. So, I'm really, really hoping that the Lexapro does the job because I can only stay off work for a month and can't function at all right now. Any advice would be appriciated. Side effects so far have been pretty severe nausea and I couldn't fall asleep because I was jittery (even on the Klonopin) and my legs kept jerking. Is this normal??? --lj

The Lexapro cannot work to its full effectiveness if you continue to drink alcohol. I found that out the hard way.

I know. I've stopped, but I needed something to calm my nerves during the six weeks (!) it took Kaiser to get me into see a psych. But did it work for the anxitey and panic attacks???

I took it mainly for depression, but with the depression, I would have overwhelmng panic/anxiety attacks where I could hardly get up to even let my dogs outside. The Lex helped the anxiety before it did the actual depression . Give it a couple weeks.
Go back and read some of Mariposa's posts -- I think she had pretty bad anxiety with it if I recall.

I've read of people starting off on a much lower dosage.

No alcohol though *

My doctor told me if I took the Lexapro in the morning, and if I wanted to have a couple of drinks in the evening it would be okay. I've done this and have had no problem. I don't drink all the time, but I went to a wedding a few weeks ago and had some drinks and I didn't have any side effects of it or anything.
Has someone experience bad reactions to the medicine with alcohol?

Hi Karen, from what I've read, Lexapro has been approved in the US, Mexico, the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, and Austria.
What we're waiting for is the regulatory approval for Lexapro in a number of other countries.Take care.

I started on 10 mg just 4 days ago and feel better already. I don't have that tight feeling in my chest anymore from anxiety, don't feel overly paranoid like I did, I haven't cried once all week (!). I can make decisions and am feeling like I did a few years back. I'm sleepy, a little light-headed, a little jaw clenching and jitters - not bad though - and the nausea is almost gone, tho I'm not really hungry yet. I don't feel numb and foggy like I did on other meds I've tried. Could it really be working this fast?

Badger Balm is made in New Hampshire and they have a website <www.badgerbalm.com> but I've found it in health food stores and catalogs. It has lavendar, rosemary, bergamot, ginger, balsam fir and other good stuff. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you!

But I am still afread of every pain and it got out of hand where I am afread to go to far from home or my doctors. I was on paxil that did not help, these meds seem to help with many side effects. Did anyone else have these trouble chest pains.

Hi there. I have been taking Lexapro for 7 weeks now and will soon be going into my 8th week of this medication. I really never noticed alot of side effects til just over the last week. I seem to be tired alot, have headaches, muscle aches (such as my chest, neck, shoulders and back) and sometimes along with the aches I have the sensation of light-headness or almost a sort of fainting sensation. Is this normal? And if so how much longer can I look forward to these side effects? Thanks for any help with my questions!

I have had heart palpitations, flutters and tachycardia from anxiety. I have had knots in my stomach and various other described kinds of weird feelings, but no absolute chest pain that I could solely attribute to anxiety.

My dad had a stroke in March, and the very next day I started getting soreness or achy in my chest, right under my breast bone. It would NOT go away!! I thought I was having a heart attack or something. I went to a cardiologist and did stress-test, etc and found everything to be fine. But with my anxious personality, I worried about it constantly. That was one reason I went on Lexapro -- my fear of having all sorts of diseases. I was convinced I had a number of things, including Lou Gehrig's, cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, etc.
Now that I've been on the Lexapro for the past 4 months, the chest pains have pretty much disappeared. I have noticed that I sleep a lot harder now (I don't wake up ONCE during the night and sometimes don't even hear the alarm).
